Although built some years ago this is one of my favourite projects. The clients were wonderful to work for. There was a battle with the planning authority to see the scheme through; including a planning appeal to achieve design we wanted. The builders were first rate.

The members wanted communal facilities to be attached to the existing church to encourage usage by the local community. The entrance to the new building also provides a new main entrance into church. The facilities include a large Meeting Hall, with Kitchen and Toilet facilities, and a Vestry. On the first floor there is a small Meeting Room and storage facilities.

The extension is built of second-hand stone and blue slate, to match the existing building. The external detailing copies, in abstract form, the details on the existing building. All joinery items, including the Kitchen, were detailed in Columbian Pine to give a warm, pleasant feel. Steel beams were left exposed as a reflection of the Victorian engineering heritage.
